It may be that on earth no one speaks the truth

Manfred E A Schmutzer

pp. 161-184

Résumé

Hundreds of thousands of library shelves bend under the load of books written on the topics of the philosophy of science, sociology of science, history of science and their like, boasting answers to questions of the type of "What is Science?", "How did it emerge from the dawn of history?" "Hoe does it work?" etc. It seems an idle enterprise to add to this legion of well-conceived, critical and uncritical accounts a further weight of unread paper.
