Résumé
Oakeshott's political philosophy of civil association contributes to the theoretical study of the nature of international society and morality. His philosophical idealism is the basis for an understanding of international society conceived as a rule-based association constituted by customary international law. This international rule of law is the institutionalization of existing shared moral practices evolving throughout history. Thus these practices are the moral foundations of international society and of debates about justice.
