In the title of this memoire I describe Heinz Werner, my beloved friend and teacher, as my spiritual grandfather and a little giant with transparent blinders. It is my fondest hope that some of the stories I have related here will help the reader understand more deeply the meaning which that title and my personal relationship with Dr. Werner has had for me ever since I first met him.
