Categorial analysis
pp. 117-165
Résumé
In Syntax we analyzed general intuitions underlying the theory of syntax. In Semantics we sought to lay down a basic semantic system which could match our intuitions. We shall now proceed to give some guidelines which ought to be followed in the categorial analysis of the syntax of expressions. We will look at the analysis of some difficult sentences, where the difficulty can be attributed to various factors. We will follow the principle that syntactical theory should readily show how to capture the syntax of a sentence we are dealing with.
