Commentary on mr Elliott's paper
pp. 128-136
Résumé
Mr Elliott's very interesting text sets out several problems with reference to receiving a work of art and to judging it. I should say at once that I feel myself in deep agreement with its author; and how could it be otherwise, when Mr Elliott is so kind as to invoke me, and when he has perfectly understood what I have tried to say elsewhere ? If I enter this discussion with him, it is in no sense to present a contrary thesis, but to take up and extend his remarks in my own way.
